I was keen on writing an article about Sealed Scars of Mirrodin environment, as i believe i improved a lot for this format after GP Bochum.

GamesStop held a Sealed SOM Tourney on 27th november ,with 8 players.

As we sat down and received our boosters, we started opening them. Glancing over the tables, i’ve seen Wurmcoil Engine, Venser, the sojourner, and a player that opened both Putrefax and Hand of the Praetors and probably 2 Argentum armor‘s. Also there were enough good uncommons at the other players. This helped me decide about some of the cards i will play.

As i oppened the boosters i received a good pool of cards with several bombs : Carnifex demon in the first booster, Mindslaver foil and Memoricide in the 2nd,  Leonin Arbiter in 3rd, Strata Scythe in 4th, Hoard-Smelter Dragon in 5th and Elspeth Tirel in 6th.

Of course the last 2 were the best among bombs in limited so i knew i wanted to play both of them.

However my pool was scarce on removal seeing 2 Turn to Slag, 1 Perilous Myr,1 shatter, 1 Arrest, 1 Oxidda Scrapmelter, 1 sylvok replica  and some pseudo-removal as Fulgent distraction, soul parry, neurok replica.
Blue and black were very light, only green giving me acces to some good cards lice slice in twain, replica, carapace forger and other.
Other cards worth mention: grasp of darkness, assault strobe, ogre geargrabber, sunspear shikari, trigon of infestation, 2 trigon of mending.
As i had several mana myrs available i decided i will play RW, and my final decklist looked like this :

SOM Limited RW

Lands (16)

Artifacts (5)
Heavy Arbalest
Strata Scythe
Strider Harness
Origin Spellbomb
Panic Spellbomb

Creatures (14)
Auriok Sunchaser
Copper Myr
Iron Myr
Perilous Myr
Darksteel Myr
Kemba’s Skyguard
Myr Galvanizer
Palladium Myr
Oxidda Scrapmelter
Golem Artisan
Razor Hippogriff
Hoard-Smelter Dragon

Spells (6)
Soul Parry
Turn to Slag
Elspeth Tirel

There were 3 rounds.
Round 1 : WRB tricolor or something. (2-0)
Although it got its mana color quite easy, i was able to defeat him, whiel going at 50 life. In game 2 we were on a stalemate and i managed to get elspeth working and razed the board, and played a Dragon. The dragon equiped the harness, but My opp managed to get turn to slag from the top library. However i got a golem artisan and the game was over.
MVP: Elspeth.
Round 2 : GB infect (2-1)
First game he gets me with poison counters as i cannot do anything.
Second game i manage to get elspeth, and powered tokens, while i kept switching Heavy arbalest from tokens to keep his cratures at bay.
The last game, i managed again to keep elspeth, and had the soul parry for his putrefax. After he return the Hand of the praetors from grave, i put Heavy arbales, and the game was mine.
MVP : Heavy Arbalest.
Round 3: Mirror against a heavy red deck.
I mange to win fisrt game on the back of Elspeth and Dragon (T5 elspeth, T6 dragon), played very soon. he did not draw removal for dragon and it sealed the game.
Second game he sideboarded a bunch of cards (swapping a color). he was kinda aggressive, while i try to recoup. at some point i use oxidda scrapmelter to destroy a chrome steed, and then played a mana myr and a palladium my. This allowed me to put the dragon next turn, and keep him back. i was quite low on life. Luck shines again and i draw elspeth, play it, gain life, and swing with a big dragon. 2 turn later i was winner.
MVP : lilte guys that stale the game until bombs arrive.

got 3 boosters as prize, and they revealed : Elspeth Tirel, Genesis Wave, Etched Champion.

As for conclusion this was a pool that i enjoyed a lot, as my tendency to play RW in this block. RW seems that the most powerful archetype, that it the less dependent of bombs, and has many outs, and board control.
